What do you mean by Leading people?
We mean leading people. The programme is built on the belief that a leader’s role is to help the unique human beings they lead make their greatest contribution to the team and organisational objectives. Doing this takes intention, commitment and a collection of skills and practices. From time to time it requires stepping away from ‘the work’ to reflect and reset that intention and to hone the craft that is coaching and leading.
Why does Leading people well matter?
The quality of leadership shows up in how people feel, perform, and grow at work. When leaders are confident in their approach, especially in how they support problem-solving, reflection, and feedback – it creates teams that are more engaged, capable, and able to take ownership. It reduces the challenges of turnover, absenteeism and team niggles and makes the team one that people reflect positively on having been a part of.
What’s the structure of the programme?
The programme is delivered through three 3.5 hour online workshops over 6-8 weeks, giving you time to learn, apply, and reflect in your own context. It wraps up with one learning application and refresh session, bringing everything together and helping you build lasting change in how you lead.
What’s included in the experience?
You’ll be supported through a mix of modules with readings, reflection exercises, and independent learning, insights from contemporary thought leaders, ongoing support during and after the programme, and practical tools to help embed your learning in real work situations.
Our programmes also offer an option of ‘1-up’ engagement. This means we engage the leader of the participant and provide them with 15-minute coaching and tools so they can support the application of the learning.

Who is this programme really for?
This programme is for leaders who are wanting to grow and refine their ability to have conversations with those they lead that build strong relationships and great outcomes. This includes line and work managers. In particular it is for leaders who want to get better at:
- Growing and developing others – in particular by making coaching a comfortable and effective tool you can draw from your kete in the course of day to day conversations.
- Having one on ones that really add value to both leader and team member.
- Raising and addressing behaviour and performance issues confidently and effectively.
What will I walk away with?
You’ll leave with practical ways to be more effective in your day-to-day leadership conversations. That includes supporting your team to solve problems and grow their capability, having more meaningful one-on-one conversations, and feeling more confident navigating challenging discussions about behaviour and performance.
How is the learning delivered?
The experience is highly interactive and discussion-based, facilitated by experienced coach-facilitators. You can take part through live online workshops (typically three half-day sessions) or in-person workshops (typically two full-day sessions).
What makes Updraft’s approach different?
Core to our work is our belief that:
It is not the knowing but the doing that counts
Over many years we have developed unique approaches to optimise the impact we can have not just on what people know but what they do – and how long they continue to do it. Specifically we:
- Engage participants ‘1-Ups’ through 15 minute coaching and focused tools so they can coach application of the learning – without having to digest the material themselves
- Coach and facilitate to help leaders feel motivated and able to adopt high value changes to their habits and practices
- Provide concrete tools, personalised plans, reminders and resources and supportive accountability during and after the programme so changes are adopted and sustained.

“While it may appear to be for people leaders in a work environment, you actually learn tools for life. I use this at home, with my partner and my children. It is more respectful and inclusive. ”
